WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHER 3:16's IN THE BIBLE?
Obviously, I don't have an issue or problem with Jn. 3:16. My concern is manifold. Many Christians believe that they don't have to memorize any other scripture but this. They feel this scripture alone will save everyone. If that were the case, more people would know Christ this day. They recite this passage to every and anyone and think they've done their job. They act as though this is the only salvation verse in the Bible! What has occurred over the past years is that this passage has become so verbalized that many non-Christians can recite it. To many of them they're just words without meaning. It's kind of like the "Our Father which art in heaven..." prayer. Many non-Christians know it. Many recite it. Ps. 23 is another example. I'm not down playing these scriptures. My point is that too many Christians have become lax or even lazy in their Bible knowledge. Not everyone can be a Biblical scholar or 10 hour/day Bible student. I get that. But there are so many wonderful verses in our scroll! We should use more of them. The more we are familiar with, the more people God can send in our path to witness to. With limited memorized verses, our witnessing is limited. In light of this, I've compiled a brief list of other 3:16's which, if committed to memory, will enhance Biblical truths and knowledge. These are not all the 3:16's in the Bible. They are not all salvation oriented. Most can lead to a discussion of salvation if the speaker has a little more of the word in him/her.
Gen. 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire
shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Lev. 3:16 And the priest shall burn them upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour: all the fat is the LORD'S.
A reading of Eph. 5:2 shows us where Christ gave Himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor
Mt. 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit
of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
A powerful verse to show hey, if Jesus was baptized to show His belief in God's truths perhaps it would behoove us to do the same!
Lk. 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am
not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
Some groups may not like this, but there is a Holy Ghost and fire baptism!
1 Cor. 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
This verse calls us to be introspective-something many of us have a hard time with!
2 Cor. 3:16 Nevertheless when it, the heart (italics added for clarification)shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
A little knowledge of the tabernacle and temple is helpful with this verse. In a nutshell, when your heart turns to God, there is nothing
separating you from Him. Heb. 10:20 says the veil was the flesh of Christ. Volumes can be added, but that's where you have to study!
Gal. 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is
Christ.
Had it not been for this, Jesus would have been just another man. But He was THE SEED. 2 Cor. 1:20 tells us that all the promises in Him were
yea and amen!
Col. . 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Oh, that more of us would demonstrate this 3:16!
2 Thes. 3:16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.
There are may scriptures dealing with peace. This is a 3:16 peace verse.
1 Tim. 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached
unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
Ok. So God was manifest in the flesh! Jesus is God! Tell this to your cultic or non believing friend!
2 Tim. 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
If I'm allowed to have one, this is one of my faves!
Jam. 3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
Any time we help stamp out envying or strife, we put confusion and evil to flight! Let's do this at work and home!
1 Jn. 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
Here's another 3:16 where Jesus is God. God laid down His life for us. It's worth studying the 3:16's just for the deity of Christ verses!
Rev. 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
This verse is sort of in the same category as 1 Cor. 3:16 in that it makes us take a good hard look at ourselves.
So you see, Jn. 3:16 isn't the only 3:16 worth knowin
