THE REIGN OF THE PTOLEMY KINGS
THE MANIFEST GOD
PHILOPATER PHILADELPHIUS NEOS DIONYSUS (NICKNAMED "THE FLUTE PLAYER")
FROM A FAMOUS FATHER
305 -283 BC
Founded the famous library and museum in Alexandria. Wrote a detailed history of Alexander the Greats campaigns.
In a war victory over Antiochus II Ptolemy II got him to put away his own wife (Laodice) and marry Ptolemy's daughter Bernice. All this with the understanding that Bernice's son-Ptolemy III (Euergetes) would assume the throne.
The above mentioned scenario failed. After Ptolemy II died, Antiochus II returned to his wife, Laodice, who in turn poisoned him and killed Bernice and her baby son. This resulted in Ptolemy III initiating a war in which Egypt was very successful. Of all the Ptolemys, his reign marked the highest in military supremacy.
His life of debauchery of drunkeness and numerous sexual exploitaions led to his decline and ultimately, began that of Egypt.
