  • KINGDOM OF HEAVEN/KINGDOM OF GOD COMPARISON CHART
This page is a study of 2 Greek words translated "word" in the New Testament. Each of these words "logos" and "rhema" are translated into other English words, but the focus of this study will only be when they are translated "word". The reason for this study is simple. I became fed up with certain people on tv and internet preaching on the word "rhema" as though it was holier than God Himself. There is even a university with this name. There seems to be an entire movement over this word and its apparent supremacy over "logos". I have no special love for the word "logos." I have a hatred of un Godly and un Biblical preaching/teaching. The verses given in this study will not be all occurrences of each word. What I've done is started with "rhema." On the left, I've given a verse or few on the subject of the heading Where "rhema" is translated "word". Then in the right column, I've given scriptures where "logos" is used the very same way.
The accepted definitions of the two words by many Greek scholars are as follows:
Rhema-To pour forth or utter
Logos-A word or utterance
As you can see, even the definitions are almost identical! My intent in this study is to show that neither word has preeminence over the other and the "rhema" preachers/teachers are pied pipers! I want to stop you from becoming a rat!

RHEMA
The rhema word of Jesus
Mt. 26:75; Mk. 14:72: And the second time the cock
crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus
said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt
deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he
  wept.
Lk. 5:5; And Simon answering said unto him, Master,
we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing:
nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
Eph. 5:26; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with
the washing of water by the word,

The rhema word of His(Jesus') power
Heb. 1:3; Who being the brightness of his glory, and
the express image of his person, and upholding all
things by the word of his power, when he had by
himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of
  the Majesty on high;

The rhema word of an angel
Lk. 1:38;  And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the
Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the
   angel departed from her.

The rhema word of the Lord God
Lk. 2:29; Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in
   peace, according to thy word:

The rhema word of the Lord
Act. 11:16; Then remembered I the word of the Lord,
  how that he said, John indeed baptized with water;
but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
1Pet. 1:25(2) But the word of the Lord endureth for
ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is
  preached unto you.

The rhema word of God
Lk. 3:2; Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the
word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in
   the wilderness.
Rom. 10:17; So then faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.
Eph. 6:17; And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Heb. 6:5; And have tasted the good word of God, and
the powers of the world to come,
Heb. 11:3; Through faith we understand that the worlds
were framed by the word of God, so that things which
are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The rhema word of Paul
Act. 28:25; And when they agreed not among
themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken
one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the
  prophet unto our fathers,
2Cor. 13:1; This is the third time I am coming to you. In
the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word
  be established.

The rhema word of faith
Rom. 10:8(2); But what saith it? The word is nigh thee,
even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word
  of faith, which we preach;

LOGOS
The logos word is a title for Jesus and His deity
Jn. 1:1;  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word

was with God, and the Word was God.

The logos word of Jesus
Act. 19:10; And this continued by the space of two
years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the
word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
Lk. 24:19 And he said unto them, What things? And
they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth,
which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before
  God and all the people:
The logos word of His(Jesus') power
Lk. 4:32,36; And they were astonished at his doctrine:
for his word was with power. 36 And they were all
amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a
word is this! for with authority and power he
commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

The logos word of God's power
Heb. 4:12; For the word of God is quick, and powerful,
and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even
to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the
joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
  and intents of the heart.
The logos word of an angel
Heb. 2:2; For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast,
and every transgression and disobedience received a
  just recompence of reward;
The logos word of the Lord
Act. 8:25;
And they, when they had testified and
preached the word of the Lord, returned to
Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages
  of the Samaritans.

2Thes. 3:1; Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the
word of the Lord may have free course, and be
glorified, even as it is with you:
The logos word of God
Lk. 5:1; And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed
upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the
  lake of Gennesaret,

Lk. 8:11; Now the parable is this: The seed is the word
  of God.

1Tim. 4:5; For it is sanctified by the word of God and
  prayer.
The logos word of Paul
Act. 14:25; And when they had preached the word in
Perga, they went down into Attalia:
The logos word of Peter
Act. 10:44; While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy
Ghost fell on all them which heard the
word.
The logos word of faith
Heb. 4:2; For unto us was the gospel preached, as
well as unto them: but the word preached did not
profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that
  heard it.

An interesting thing can be seen in Act. 10:44. Both words are here. "...spake these words..." uses rhema and "...heard the word." uses logos. By now you can see how ridiculous it is for anyone to teach or preach one Greek word whether logos or rhema as having more spiritual significance over the other.  I've shown that both are used in the same connotations and by the same speakers. There are many other verses for both words. There are even other words other than "word" that each word is translated to. I hope this page is helpful for you to begin your own study.
